Catherine AlexanderLGSW, Coordinator of the Strong Families Program at ¡HICA! Language Access Advocate
I am a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) in Alabama with over 15 years of professional experience in domestic violence/sexual assault advocacy, court advocacy, youth and family work, and macro social work practice (program evaluation, policy development, etc). I am the Coordinator of the Strong Families Program at ¡HICA!, which performs the organization’s court and family advocacy. I am bilingual, but not a certified interpreter. Part of my job is to is to educate clients and the community about the importance of language access as a civil right. I believe that an important part of improving language access in Alabama is legitimizing the interpreting profession so that it is clear who is qualified to interpret and what those qualifications are.
